E 2025 Overarehine Vision In the year 2025, Downtown Hilo:
...Has a vibrant, thriving, and diversified economy [hat supports its residents, visitors, and
local businesses with a gathering place [hat builds on the community's unique scientific,
educational, historical, spiritual, cultural, and artistic assets.
...Is a green, sustainable environment with protected natural resources -magnificent
vistas, pristine waters, pure sweet air, and historic charm.
...Carefully manages its growth and development through sound planning and policies,
accommodating change while preserving its unique historical character, natural
Features, and quality of life.
...Is a friendly, safe, and healthy community with affordable housing, accessible health
care, low levels of crime, well-maintained streets, pedestrian pathways, public places,
and a wealth of recreational activities for families and youth.
...Is a global magnet for education, culture, and the arts, building on its rich Hawaiian,
ethnic, and cultural diversity and shares these resources with the community and the
rest of [he world.
...Is synonymous with the spirit of Aloha, a community that celebrates its unique character,
rich heritage, generational values, and vision for [he future. Our hometown, Downtown

ABrief History of EDH 2025...
• zooq -zoos: the Friends of Downtown Hilo Steering
Committee facilitated community visioning workshops,
and the development of the Action Plan
• November zoos: Hawaii County Council adopted the
EDH zoz5 Vision and Living Action Plan as a guide for the
future of Downtown Hilo
• January zoo6: The EDH zoz5 VisionKeepers
Implementation Committee formed to monitor progress,
promote, and celebrate the Living Action Plan
...A Brief History of EDH 2025
• June zoos: The first EDH zoz5 Town Meeting was held at
the historic Palace Theater, with over zzo people
attending
• August zoos: The first EDH zoz5
Annual Report was published,
which covered progress made from ~
January zoo6 -June zoos
• Currently: The EDH zoz5 VisionKeepers continue to
"energize, guide, inspire, and strengthen partnerships
within the community to implement the Giving Action
Plan'; to ensure timely progress towards implementing the
Community's Vision

Some of the Easy Wins we'd like to encourage are:
• Developing an Interpretive Signage Plan for DT Hilo
• Promoting Hilo as a'Festival Town'
Actions
Some of the Big Actions that are already moving forward include:
• The Hilo Bayfront Trails Project
• Tsunami Preparedness Training (first step of Emergency
Preparedness Training)
• Hilo Farmers Market
We also believe that developing a complete transportation plan to include
traffic circulation, pedestrian safety, parkin-ride, and multi-modal transport
systems is important for Downtown Hilo.
