Subject: Please support passing of County Bill 197
Dear Council Members:
We are requesting this writing be included as testimony at the Council Chambers Committee meeting on
November 6, 2007 at 9a.m. to strongly encourage your support for Council Bill #197 which would
broaden the language of Hawaii county code to include all IRS recognized nonprofit community
organizations as potential beneficiaries of county grants. Not just 501c3s as the language now currently
reads in the code.
This would enable private subdivision associations like HPP, Fern Forest, Leilani (501c4's) and others
(501c6) to possibly benefit when seeking assistance with funding for community projects. As you
know, these private subdivisions pay taxes to the County and do not directly receive services to benefit
the infrastructure of these and many other private subdivisions. A change to the current code would
allow these private subdivisions the opportunity to benefit from the taxes paid. Again, we ask for your
support to vote in favor of County Bill #197 as there are many important services needed for these
Communities. Thank you for your consideration of our request.
