HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 461 Draft 01 2006-2008 ~iY Os N'•4 ~r COUNTY OF HAWAII STATE OF HAWAII RESOLUTION NO. 4.~1 A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT AND FROM THE DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT(S) AND CREDITING SAME TO A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT(S) WHEREAS, Kea`au High School's Environmental and Spatial Technology (EAST) program focuses on student-driven service projects using the most current, high-end technologies available in some of the most progressive fields in the world; and WHEREAS, the EAST program provides students with an educational atmosphere that allows them to gain insight into their own abilities to acquire and use information, solve problems, and gain valuable experience in using the latest technology; and WHEREAS, EAST students routinely interact with hardware and software in animation, computer-aided design, engineering design, visualization, database design, . webpage design, programming, office automation, global positioning systems, and geographic information systems; and WHEREAS, the skills and experiences that students gain from this program include teamwork, leadership, self-motivation, public speaking, and more; and WHEREAS, the EAST program also helps students to be better prepared for both college and the business world; and WHEREAS, on November 6, 2007, students from the Kea`au High School's EAST program did a PowerPoint presentation on some of their projects to the Council Members during the Human Services and Economic Development Committee; and WHEREAS, these same students would like to present their projects at the upcoming national EAST Partnership Conference on February 19-21, 2008, in Hot Springs, Arkansas, which includes an interactive map of the Puna Community Development Plan; and WHEREAS, the EAST Partnership Conference is an annual gathering of over 2,000 students from across America showcasing their service projects, as well as participating in breakout sessions on the latest technology, an awards banquet, and much more; and WHEREAS, Kea`au High School has partnered with the Hawaii Island Economic Development Board, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, to send four students and one teacher/facilitator to represent the Big Island at the upcoming conference, however, funds are needed to help cover their travel expenses; and WHEREAS, Contingency Relief funds from Council District 3 will be appropriated to the Planning Department to help cover the travel expenses for four students and one teacher/facilitator from Kea`au High School to attend the national EAST Partnership Conference in Hot Springs, Arkansas; now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that the following amount is hereby transferred/appropriated as set forth below: FUND: General AMOUNT OF APPROPRIATION: $5,500 OUT AND FROM: 010.101.5101.91 Clerk-Council Svc -Contingency Relief $5,500 CREDITED TO: 010.141.5141.02 Planning Department $5,500 Planning OCE (EAST Partnership Conference) 2 BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk shall forward a copy of this resolution to the Planning Director and Director of Finance, and that the Director of Finance is hereby authorized to make the necessary transfers in accordance with the terms of this resolution.
