Your Committee on Public Works & Intergovernmental Relations, to which was referred in
Communication 842, regarding Resolution 442-07, reports as follows:
Resolution 442-07, transmitted by Council member J Yoshimoto, via Communication 842, dated
December 4, 2007, supporting H.R. 676 that would establish the United States National Health Insurance Act.
Congressman John Conyers, Jr. introduced H.R. 676 that would establish a unique American universal health
insurance program with single-payer financing. The purpose of H.R. 676 is to ensure that all Americans will
have access, guaranteed by law, to the highest quality and most cost effective health care services regardless of
their employment, income, or health care status.
There was a single testifier in support of the proposed resolution.
Council Member J Yoshimoto seeks the support of his colleagues on the proposed resolution.
Council Member Yoshimoto further stated reviewing of bill H.R. 676 is available on Congressman
John Conyers, Jr. website. Several Council Members expressed the importance of supporting our
U.S. Legislators in their efforts on addressing our nation's crisis on healthcare. Council Member Bob Jacobson
stated that our local government should also support a similar bill proposed before the Hawaii State Legislature.
Your Committee on Public Works and Intergovernmental Relations is in accord with the purpose and intent of
Resolution 442-07, and recommends its adoption.
