Clearly we need new, diverse, and higher-wage employment opportundies as well as, afiordalae worP,loiCe h~5ueing.
However, planing such affordable housing requirements nn the investors who generate new emph.yment cppotun tip.; is
vary mUCh like killing thB goose that lay8 [he golden egg. Instead, it may be wiser }or us to recr gnC>.e th!~I p~oserive
employers look at numerous factors including and not limited to, an available and educated workkr ce. Cu nantly, hacrai'i
County employers are racing challenges finding and sustaining such a worktorC,e, and often the lac < of affnrdab~e hou;mq
is cited as one of the primary reasons for this shortfall. This leads us to the adage of "what come> first the unc~czr Cr ;he
eqg" - or in this case, "workforce or workforce housing" As such, perhaps a better strategy would be for us to focus; on
identifying and implementing the means by which we can increase the Inventory of affordable wortc'orca hous ng, which in
turn, would attract a workforce which would encourage investment and thus, create more employrtlf nt oppe;rtcnities.
