A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT
AND FROM THE DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT(S) AND CREDITING SAME TO A
DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT(S)
WHEREAS, the Kohala Center has created the Hawaii Island School Garden Network
to support the successful development of on site gazdens, curriculum, resources and further
education for the teachers of school-community based gardens at a minimum of 20 (grades K
through 12) schools on Hawaii Island; and
WHEREAS, the Kohala Center is a 501(c)(3)nnn-profit corporation based in Waimea
which respectfully engages the Island of Hawaii as a living laboratory for humanity by
sponsoring research and education to address local issues that have global significance; and
WHEREAS, a consensus emerging from over 200 participants who attended the Hawaii
Island Food Summit held in October 2007 was that Hawaii Island can and should become more
food self-reliant, and that an important element in creating a more self-reliant and a stable food
economy entails the training of youth and the participation of community in the process; and
WHEREAS, Contingency Relief funds from Council District 8 will be appropriated to
the Department of Research and Development to assist the Hawaii Island School Garden
Network to coordinate and implement collaborative garden projects island wide; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that the
following amount is hereby transferred/appropriated as set forth below:

BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk shall forward a copy of this
resolution to the Director of Research and Development and the Director of Finance and that the
Director of Finance is hereby authorized to make the necessary transfers in accordance with the
terms of this resolution.
