The first donation is for $5,000 and was given by the Home Owners of the Fairways at Mauna Kea North Homeowners Association, 75-169 Hualalai Road, Kailua-Kona Hawai'i 96740, in appreciation for the rapid response and dedication displayed by the department's firefighters during the recent fires that occurred near the Mauna Kea Resort. These funds are earmarked for the purchase of equipment, supplies, and other work related needs for the South Kohala Fire Station. The other donation, for $2,500, from the Edmund C. Olson Family Foundation, 11560 Tennessee Avenue, Los Angeles, California, 90064-1513 is for the Pahala Volunteer Fire Department. This donation will be used to purchase much needed protective fire gear, for the Pahala Volunteer Fire Department, which is one of many Volunteer Fire Units which operate under the direction of the Hawai'i Fire Department. Enclosed are two (2) resolutions authorizing the acceptance of each of the aforementioned donations and a bill for an ordinance amending the Operating Budget by appropriating the total donated amount of $7,500 into the newly created account titled "Fire Department Miscellaneous Private Contributions". The Owners are so grateful for the diligence that the various fire departments that responded provided, in particular, they wish to acknowledge the South Kohala Station. This department continues to provide unparalleled service to the resort owners.
