D.1 H.D.1 TO IMPOSE A TEN-YEAR MORATORI[~I~Y ON
DEVELOPING, TESTING, PROPAGATING, CULTIVATING, GROWING, AND RAISING OF GENETICALLY
MODIFIED TARO IN THE STATE OF HAWAII

Aloha, Councilmembers:
I am asking that you once again pass this resolution that has the intent of letting State
legislators know that our County clearly wants to protect agriculture, human health, and
the environmental integrity of Hawai~I Island.
GMO Taro would forever modify the ancestor o£ all native Hawaiian people. It would alter a
nutritious staple crop of all people. It would add potentially allergenic proteins to one
o£ the most non-allergenic foods there are.
GMO coffee would contaminate one of Hawaii~s most valuable and famous specialty crops.
Specialty Coffee markets would collapse, as GMO coffee is not a specialty coffee. It would
destroy a thriving local industry.

Mahalo for your support for this resolution.
Sincerely,
Janice Palma-Glennie
PO Box 9899
Kailua-Kona, HI 96745
Comm.
