I am writing to testify in favor of Resolution 462-08: "Supports S. B.
958 S. D. 1 H.D. 1 to impose a Ten-Year Moratorium on Developing, Testing, Propagating,
Cultivating, Growing, and Raising Genetically Modified Taro in the State of Hawai'i.
(Urges the Hawai'i Sate Legislature to pass S. B. 958 S. D. 1 H.D. 1); and EMC-11."
Please pass this resolution in support of a moratorium on genetic engineering experiments
with taro.
In addition, please work proactively to restore healthy taro cultivation in Hawai'i County
through providing traditional taro farmers access to healthy land, water and other
essential elements of the 'aina that will enable them to restore the health of traditional
taro varieties and make the cultural sacrilege and unknown public risks of genetic
engineering completely unnecessary.
