I would like to testify in favor of resolution 463-08 to support H.B 1557 H.D.1. to impose
a mortatorium on the planting of GMO coffee on Hawaii Island. This is critical for the
survival of our heritage crop of Kona Coffee as our century old reputation was and is
built upon our Kona Typica variety grown in Kona for the past 150 years or so.
We believe that even the slightest suggestion of GMO coffee being grown on our Island
could ruin one of our best import areas for our product ( Japan & Asia It would also
not be in the best interest for all of the Hawaii Island coffees as it would adversely
impact forever the ability to reach these and other markets.
Please help Hawaii County coffee farmers preserve a very necessary, local agricultural
product from being compromised.
