Dear Chairman Hoffmann and Council Members:
It is my pleasure to nominate Ms. Karen Maedo of Council District 2 to the County of
Hawai'i Board of Appeals. Ms. Maedo is a lifelong resident of Hawai'i. She has been a
financial advisor since 2002 and presently works at LPL Financial. From 1969 to 2000,
she was employed by the Department of Education as a teacher and administrator.
Since 2001, Ms. Maedo served as a charter member of the County of Hawai'i Fire
Commission; her term expired on December 31, 2007.
Ms. Maedo is a board member of the Hospice of Hilo and the Honpa Hongwanji Hilo
Betsuin. She is also the current recording secretary of the Hawai'i Island Retired
Teachers Association. Ms. Maedo states that she is not affiliated with any political party.
If confirmed, she will serve a term to expire on December 31, 2012, filling one of two
positions that became vacant on December 31, 2007.
