SUBJECT: TRAFFIC CODE AMENDMENT
ESTABLISHING A 25 MPH SPEED LIMIT FROM HONALO JUNCTION
FOR 4100 FEET SOUTH
We request the Hawai'i County Code, Chapter 24, Article 10, Division 1, Section 24-256,
Schedule 4 (30 mile per hour limit), subsection (f) Kona, item (3) of the Hawai'i County Code,
1983 (2005 Edition) be amended as follows:
(3)Mamalahoa Highway, from a point four thousand one hundred feet in a southerly
direction from the terminus of the State highway at Honalo to the terminus of the State
Highway at Captain Cook.
( ) Mamalahoa Highway, from the terminus of the State Highway at Knalo to a point
four thousand one hundred feet in a southerly direction.
The proposed 4100 feet of existing road has numerous adjacent commercial developments. The
85th percentile speed is difficult to determine due to the congestion and the 25 mph speed limit is
recommended solely on the activity of the roadway within this community.
We ask for your review and consideration for adoption of the subject amendment. Should you
