Your Committee on Planning, to which was referred Communication No. 924, reports as
follows:
Communication No. 924 from Mayor Harry Kim, dated January 7, 2008, nominates Robert
Meierdiercks, of Council District 6, to the County of Hawaii Water Board. Mr. Meierdiercks is
a 44-year resident of Hawaii and is employed by the Hawaii Carpenter's Union as a
representative since 1989. Mr. Meierdiercks states he is not affiliated with any political party
and, if confirmed, will serve a term to end on December 31, 2012, replacing Loren Heck, whose
term expired on December 31, 2007.
Pursuant to Section 13-4, Hawaii County Charter, the County of Hawaii Water Board shall
consist of members appointed by the mayor, and confirmed by the council.
At the January 23, 2008 Planning Committee meeting, Mr. Meierdiercks was present via video
conference at the Kona Council office and expressed his commitment to serve as a member of
the Hawaii County Water Board. Responding to Council Member Jacobson's inquiry regarding
support for completion and development of a second well at Ocean View, Mr. Meierdiercks
stated he would consider the needs of the Ocean View community as well as communities of all
districts during his term on the Water Board.
Your Committee on Planning recommends the confirmation of Mr. Robert Meierdiercks to the
County of Hawaii Water Board. [t was noted that Mr. Meierkiercks' appearance before the
Council would be waived.
