Relating To Prohibition of Smoking In Certain Places Council hearing: February 5, 2008
February 4, 2008 My name is Buffy Cushman-Patz, and I strongly support Bill 224, which
would prohibit using tobacco products at all County of Hawai?i parks and beaches.
There is nothing worse than enjoying a beautiful day at the beach, breathing in the salt
and the sea... and then having to breathe in the cigarette smoke of someone sitting upwind
from you on the beach. We each ought to be able to choose to enjoy nature without being
affected by someone else's choice to smoke a cigarette.
I hope that the Big Island will be the first county to adopt this measure, and then
convince the other counties in our state to follow suit.
Please accept this as written testimony in support of this bill.
