Subject: Against: Comm. 4 (Bill 2) & Comm. 89 (Bill 28) KALOKO
When Stacy Higa was council chairman, I attended a council meeting during which property
owners were attempting to have their 20 acre agricultural parcels in Kaloko subdivided
into 10 acres. In spite of much testimony as to how dangerous the road (Kaloko) was and
how unwise it was to put additional traffic on this road, the council caved in to the
pleas of the property owners to subdivide, with the provision that they would have to wait
for two years to do so to give time for the intersection to be made safer. Given that
there was already some funding allotted for this purpose, the council members were
confident that this could be achieved and even made it sound as though they would apply
their collective might to accomplish this task.
Instead, a budget was passed last year that didn't mention this road and a windfall from
the sale of county land is being divided up for various purposes, with no mention of
improving the Kaloko intersection. Once again, it appears that another county annual
budget is being prepared that will not address the issue either.
Please do not allow any further subdivision on property along Kaloko Road until the
infrastructure is in place.
