Subject: Hawaii School Garden Network Resolution
Please support Angel Pilago's resolution to support and provide funding to the Hawaii School Garden Network. As
a parent of students at Waimea Middle School, a Hawaiian Homestead organic farmer, Waimea Homestead
Farmers Market vendor, and seventeen year resident of Hawaii Island I see the school gardens program as an
important catalyst in helping our youngsters to understand their relationship to this unique place, the importance
of understanding how their food is produced and their part in producing food, and opening their eyes to the
possibility of being a part of an agricultural lifestyle that this island certainly can support. This kind of community
support of our children's education is an indication of the need to help our children become participants in
producing food and gardens and not merely observers to one of life's basic needs. Be as supportive and
generous as possible!
