Joseph Akina Testimony
Kanu'o Ka `Aina
Grade: 101h
Age: 15
Date: 1/23/08

My name is Joseph Akina. I proudly attend Kanu'o ka `Aina N.C.P.C. As a

Hawaiian boy, I know that Kato (Colossian Esculent) is very important to our islands

because it is a very healthy and nutrious meal. Kalo was brought to Hawaii by the

Hawaiians. As a cultural perspective we treat our plants with respect, with each one

having a purpose of helping us Hawaiians being healthy and strong. Asa health

concern, I feel that scientists might think that it won't bother us but it could affect

other things which could affect us.

Environments can be infected by G.M.O such as pollinating by the wind and as

all we know the G.M.O that doesn't go the plant might affect the ozone too.

How the trees or plants create oxygen for us could also be affected by G. M.O

and create side effects to us, the Land or the Atmosphere. The Kalo is also known as

our older brother Haloalaukapalili. I feel as a native of Hawai'i that the G.M.O is very

insulting because Kalo is like our older brother and it would be like us genetically

modifying your brother. That is why I support the bill and hope it passes.

Comm. No. 8~~• 5.51
Ref. To; A
Ref.
