Aloha! My name is Kaniela. I am a student of Kanu o
ka `Aina, and I am a supporter of the bill to stop the
GMO testing on kalo. The reason I am supporting this
bill is because the kalo is our native Hawaiian people's
older brother, Haloa. Therefore, the kalo is a very
important part of our people's culture. Not only that,
but it is one of our peoples greatest and favorite foods.
Some people were fed poi as a baby and it could
impact them greatly. It might affect them emotionally.
Knowing that there most loved food is becoming to a
point where they have to buy poi to get them. I don't
think that these people will give up eating their
childhood food. Also, if we eat it and it does do
something harmful to our bodies, some people could
be hurt. So I think that we should leave it as it is.
