Testimony for Bill 244 AN ORDINANCE AMENDING ORDINANCE NO. 07-170 ESTABLISHING ANEW ARTICLE
RELATING TO A HAWAII COUNTY CULTURAL RESOURCES COMMISSION (Establishes term requirements for
Commission members, specifies that historic properties are to be 50 years old and corrects minor grammatical errors)
I am writing in support of this measure in its concept and in its refinements to clarify commission term requirements and other
technical amendments. This commission is very important to the future of this island in terms of being an active agent for the
preservation of historic sites and features unique to the big island. The amendments to clarify commissioner terms of office
are good ones and helps to clarify the responsibilities involved.
It is important that this commission be initiated as soon as possible, for there is much work to be done in obtaining federal
funding to help with conducting an inventory of the island's historical features. There is widespread support for work that the
commission would do.
