Making Technical Corrections to
Hawaii County Cultural Resources Commission
I am writing on behalf of Historic Hawaii Foundation (HHF) to support Council Bill 244[1], making technical
corrections to the enabling legislation for Hawaii County's Cultural Resources Commission.
Since 1974, Historic Hawaii Foundation has been a statewide leader for historic preservation. HHF works to
preserve Hawai`i's unique architectural and cultural heritage and believes that historic preservation is an important
element in the present and future quality of life and economic viability of the state.
The revisions to the enabling legislation will provide additional specificity about the terms of the CRC commissioners,
definitions of historic properties, and postpones implementation until January 2009. These amendments will not
substantively affect the work of the Cultural Resources Commission and will provide a better framework for it to
accomplish its goals.
Therefore, Historic Hawaii Foundation supports Bill 244.
