No. 947Besolution No. 501-08 PLACE: Councilroom Ben Franklin Building 333 Kilauea Avenue, 2"d Floor Hilo, Hawaii TIME: 1:30 p.m. Council Chair and Members Hawaii County Council Hilo, Hawaii 96720 Your Committee on Planning, to which was referred Resolution No. 501-08, reports as follows: Resolution No. 501-08, transmitted via Communication No. 947 from Council Chair Pete Hoffmann, dated January 23, 2008, transmitting a resolution extending the temporary delay of Council Action on rezoning applications for the District of South Kohala. Resolution No. 501-08 states that Resolution No. 17-07, duly adopted by the County Council on January 4, 2007, temporarily delayed Council action on rezoning applications in the District of South Kohala until January 5, 2008 and that because the South Kohala Community Development Plan process is still ongoing, an extension of time is necessary to allow for completion of this important community-based process. Resolution No. 501-08 also notes that although Resolution No. 17-07 included a provision for extensions of time of not more than six (6) months each, the development of Community Development Plans have shown to necessitate a longer period of time. Therefore, Resolution No. 501-08 extends the temporary delay of Council action on rezoning applications in the District of South Kohala until the South Kohala Community Development Plan is adopted by ordinance, or December 1, 2008, whichever occurs first. At the February 5, 2008 Planning Committee meeting, Council Chair Hoffmann noted continued success in the delay of council action on rezonings until completion of the South Kohala Community Development Plan and stated that he expects a draft ordinance would be ready by summer.
