Subject: Bill 224 - No smoking on Beaches
This flyer was on all the tables at the Rotary Club of So. Hilo, and since
Traci Yoshimoto 0 Yoshimoto's wife) is on the payroll of one of the
non-smoking groups, she probably had the flyers put on the tables.
No doubt she probably gets bonuses for any frivolous legistion :;he can
get her husband to introduce and get passed. Seems like a conf ict of
interest to me.
Doesn't this council have more important items to consider and maybe
actually accomplish something???
If this council is even considering putting this into law, maybe you
should add the following items:
1. No keiki wearing diapers allowed on beaches on in the
water due to possible E-coli contamination from dirty
diapers or the diapers left by their "caring" parents after
diaper changes.
2. No plate lunches allowed on the beaches because the
containers rarely land in the trash barrels, or are somehow
jumping out of the barrels.
3. No barbequing allowed on the beaches due to possible
fire hazard and hot coals.

4. No soda cups allowed on the beaches, because they end up
maybe near the barrels.
5. Police officers will be on permanent duty at all beaches to
fine offenders swiftly.

Clean, Health Parks a Beaches
for Kelkl, Ohana and Fishles]
Contact your council member today. Tell them YOU are
a constituent and want Bill 224 passed to protect our
keiki and environment from toxic tobacco smoke and
cigarette butts.
Why smoke-free parks and beaches:
Eliminate harms of seco dhand smoke. Outdoor tobacco
smoke is known to be as toxic as indoor secondhand
smoke. Outdoor tobaccolsmoke negatively affects children
and adults with asthma, emphysema and other health
problems like heart disease.' Secondhand smoke is a Class-
A carcinogen - same as-asbestos and known to cause:
cancer.
Toxic litter. Cigarette butts and tobacco packaging are the
number one litter problem we have on our beaches.
Ingesting cigarettes butts is harmful to young children, our
coastal birds and marine life. Toxins from cigarette buts
leach Into the ground and ocean.
Changing societal acceptance of tobacco use - Everyday,
3,000 youth become newly addicted tobacco users.
Currently children get mixed messages to about tobacco
use. "Do as I say, not as dq."
Tell your Hawaii County Council Member our island and
ohana deserve to be protected.
