Aloha and Good Morning Men and Women of the Hawaii County Council,
1 am Shiloah Watai, I live in the Kealakehe community where I attend Hualalai
Academy as a Senior. I am speaking in support of Resolution and would
like to testify that this Resolution, if passed, will not only ensure cleaner and
welcoming beaches, but also the healthier lifestyles that we should have. We all
know, through it's companies labels and facts, cigarettes aren't the healthiest choice
we can make. A few years back, my father passed away due to cancer that started in
the liver and spread throughout his body. He smoked all his life and although drinking
didn't help, I'd say he could be proof that cigarettes are extremely harmful not just to
your lungs. I am surrounded with smoke free family and friends and that motivates
me to stay drug-free also. I support this Resolution because of the lives it could save
and the lives it could better. I'd now like to introduce members of my own community
to also assist in passing this proposal.
