SUBJECT: Resolution Recommending a Minimum Fuel-Efficiency Standard of 35 Miles per
Gallon for Highway Driving, As Measured by the Environmental Protection
Agency, for Passenger Vehicles Purchased by the County
Enclosed is a resolution recommending a minimum fuel-efficiency standard of 35 miles per
gallon for highway driving, for all future passenger vehicles purchased by the county.
The resolution also calls upon the mayor to assign qualified administrative personnel to monitor
the performance of the first 10 fuel-efficient vehicles purchased, in order to determine the overall
cost-benefit of this purchase for the county. Finally, the resolution asks the mayor to report the
results of this cost-benefit analysis to the council prior to submission of the operating budget on
March 1, 2009.
