County of Hawaii Hawaii County Building 25 Aupuni Street - - Hilo, Hawaii 96720 March 6, 1998 MEMO TO: Council Chair James Y. Arakaki and Council Members FROM: John Ray, Chair(71 1Z \ Committee on Human Services and Economic Development RE: Attached Resolution Supporting the Building of Two Additional Pipelines at the Natural Energy Laboratory of Hawaii Authority (NELHA) Attached is a resolution supporting expansion plans at NELHA. The proposed expansion provides for the construction of two additional 55 inch pipelines. The Committee on Human Services and Economic Development was fortunate to schedule a site visit at NELHA, which was attended by six council members. The economic activities continue to grow at NELHA and the current volumes of cold and warm water can not support the expansion of existing tenants, let alone the demand of prospective new tenants. NELHA is seeking funding support at the state this legislative session. I would like to waive the attached resolution so that the Council may express its support for the expansion at the earliest possible opportunity. Thank you for your consideration of this matter.
