Angel Pilago's resolution H.B. 1577 H.D. 1 to prohibit the growing of genetically modified coffee. I grow organic Kona coffee on my small farm in South Kona. Airborne genetically modified papaya pollen infected my organic papaya patch 3 years ago and I know just how dangerous it is to have genetically modified papayas growing anywhere in this area! I (and another neighboring farmer) were obliged to cut down ALL of our papaya trees since the fruit could no longer be sold as organic papayas. A serious loss - financially and psychologically. My small coffee crop would be worthless if infected with genetically modified coffee... I am sure that you realize that I am not the only organic coffee grower horrified at the danger to our precious Kona coffee crop as well as to our international REPUTATION FOR EXCELLENT PURE KONA COFFEE. Meddling with Mother Nature at the expense of our local Kona farmers is not the way to go...we need protection and this resolution is an excellent step in the right direction. Many thanks for your attention to this matter.
