Your Committee on Public Works & Intergovernmental Relations, to which was referred in
Communication 1015, regarding Bi11245, reports as follows:
Bill 245, transmitted by Director of Public Works, Bruce McClure, via Communication No. 1015,
dated February 1, 2008, amends Chapter 24, Article 10, Division 1, Section 24-253.1, Schedule 1.1 (15
mile per hour limit), subsection (c) South Hilo, of the Hawaii County Code 1983 (2005 Edition, as
amended) by adding Omao Street, from Kaumana Drive to a point six hundred feet in the southeasterly
direction.
There was no testimony from the public on this proposed amendment.
Council Member Donald Ikeda stated he supports this proposed amendment as this is in his district and
has received many complaints of speeding in the area.
Mr. Ron Thiel, Traffic Division Chief; Mr. Bruce McClure, Director; and Mr. Jiro Sumada, Deputy
Director, from the Department of Public Works appeared before your Committee. However, there
were no questions amongst your Committee members.
Your Committee on Public Works and Intergovernmental Relations is in accord with the purpose and
intent of Bi11245, and recommends it pass first reading.
