Ford Council Member RE: Transmitting Bill 257, Draft 2 (Relating to a Charter Amendment to Article XI - Initiative and Referendum) Attached please find Bill 257, Draft 2. Bill 257, Draft 2 is a result of amendments proposed in Communication No. 1056.2 that were duly approved by the Public Works and Intergovernmental Relations Committee (PWIRC) during its meeting on March 11, 2008. The PWIRC further amended the proposed amendments contained within Communication No. 1056.2 by: 1. Reinserting "within ten working days of receipt of the alternative language" into the first sentence of subsection (f) of section 11-4. 2. Amending section 11-7, Results of Election, to read as follows: "(a) A "no" vote shall be a negative response. A non-vote, where there is no response, shall not be counted affirmatively or negatively. (b) If a majority of the voters voting upon a proposed initiative ordinance shall vote in favor of it, the ordinance involved shall thereupon be an ordinance of the county. A proposed initiative ordinance which is not approved by a majority of the voters on it shall thereupon be repealed. Gomm, No, •i~7~ Ref. Tow Pre"&W# rwIK& Ref.
