RESOLUTION NO. 562 08
RESOLUTION CREATING A CONSTRUCTION EQUIPMENT MECHANIC
POSITION AND ABOLISHING A LUBRICATION WORKER POSITION WITHIN
THE DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS' AUTOMOTIVE DIVISION
WHEREAS, Article V, Section 5-1.3(c) of the Hawaii County Charter states that the Mayor
has the power to "Create positions...fortyhich appropriations have been made by the council and
abolish positions with the consent of the council."; and
WHEREAS, Kohala District has seen an increase in the amount of construction equipment
the Department of Public Works' Automotive Division is required to maintain and repair; and
WHEREAS, the increase is due to the additional pieces of construction equipment from the
Department of Environmental Management's Solid Waste Division that is located in that district;
and
WHEREAS, although a lubrication worker position was temporarily transferred to the Kohala
District to provide additional assistance, there is a greater need for a Construction Equipment
Mechanic position, since this class of work is capable of performing the necessary servicing and
repair that is required; and
WHEREAS, creating a Construction Equipment Mechanic, BC-11, position in the
Automotive Division will allow them to become more efficient and to provide better service to the
other departments; and
WHEREAS, the Lubrication Worker, BC-05, Position No. 00-02328, can be abolished to
make way for the Construction Equipment Mechanic position in the Kohala District; and
WHEREAS, funds will become available in the Automotive's Regular Salaries and Wages
Account, upon the abolishment of the Lubrication Worker position.

No. 00-0232$, Lubrication Worker, BC-05, position be abolished.
IT FURT~IEIZ 4~ESOLV~D that funds will become available in the Automotive's Regular
Salaries and V`Jages Account, upon the abolishment of the Lubrication Worker position.
~E IT IeUI~THEFt 12ESOL.V~D that a copy of this resolution be transmitted to the
Departments of Finance, Human Resources, and Public Works.
