Comm. 1062.1:
Opportunities for the widest possible discussion of this issue are of
paramount importance.
The issue at hand involves the largest single debt-funded expenditure
the County.has ever undertaken.
The financial position of the County government for a whole generation
of residents is at stake.
The entire Council must vote on this issue and the entire community
will be impacted by that vote.
An Ad hoc Committee is not the type of responsive government the
community deserves on an issue of this magnitude.
Please hold public hearings at a minimum of three, preferably four,
locations around the island, for example, Hilo, Waimea, Kailua-Kona,
and Volcano.

Comm. 1051:
(Res. 546-08)
This is to voice support for Resolution 546.
It represents a worthy first step toward a green procurement policy
for Hawaii County.

(Res. 551-08)
This is to express OPPOSITION to Resolution 551.
This "Whereas" clause is not true:
"the County now finds it in its best interest to contract for private
services of a provider to design, build and operate a Waste-T-Energy
facility..."
It is NOT in the best interest of the County to pursue this policy.
Waste-to-energy incineration is expensive, hazardous, unreliable,
inflexible, and not suited to Hawaii County's needs.
Most importantly, WTE is not necessary since there are lower cost,
safer, more reliable means to resolve the County's'solid waste'
problem.
