Dear Hang,
After all these years of supporting you I am now, for the second time, extremely
disappointed in you. Your decision to veto the proposed smoking ban shows a great
lack of concern for a healthier society and a cleaner environment. How can a man of
your intelligence fail to see the overwhelming evidence in support of this beneficial
ban? You are acting like a politician again.
Some time ago you voted for the barking, whining, howling dogs and against us
citizens who continue to suffer from this unbearable noise pollution. You took a poli-
tician's stance saying that such a proposed law was unenforceable Harry, all laws are
unenforceable if they are not enforced. Then you wrote to me saying that an enforce-
able law against barking dogs is being worked on. Have you conveniently forgotten
about this promise? I think of you every time my neighbor's three dogs bark, howl and
whine near my bedroom window day and night.
Smoking is not a right or privilege. It is a plague that causes untold expense, grief,
pollution and suffering. Just one whiff of tobacco smoke sets off a horrible migraine
headache for me and has done so all my life.
You haven't done your homework, Harry, or you are being a politician again. Make
a list of all the benefits of a smoke-free society and compare it to the blank list of bene-
fits of smoking. Do that today, before your legacy goes up in smoke. Show some
courage, some backbone, some vision of a future healthier world.
