ORDINANCE NO.
A BILL FOR AN ORDINANCE AMENDING THE PARKS AND RECREATIONAL
FACILITY SCHEDULE, CHAPTER 15, ARTICLE 8, SECTION 15-68.1, HAWAII
COUNTY CODE 1983 (2005 EDITION, AS AMENDED), REGARDING RENAMING
THE ISAAC HALE MEMORIAL PARK TO "ISAAC KEPO`OKALANI HALE BEACH
PARK"
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII:
SECTION 1. Purpose. The purpose of this ordinance is to fulfill the wishes of the Hale
family by renaming the Isaac Hale Memorial Park to accurately reflect the name of their family
member, Isaac Kepo`okalani Hale and his heritage. Isaac Kepo`okalani Hale was raised in the
Poho`iki area and was killed overseas during the Korean war. The Isaac Hale Memorial Park in
Puna was named afrer this waz hero. His family has requested that the Pazk be renamed to
include Mr. Hale's middle name and denote that the facility is a beach park as well.
Therefore, the Isaac Hale Memorial Park is renamed the Isaac Kepo`okalani Hale Beach
Park pursuant to chapter 15, article 8, section 15-67, Hawaii County Code 1983 (2005 Edition,
as amended), which establishes requirements for the naming of County parks and recreational
facilities.
SECTION 2. Chapter 15, article 8, section 15-68.1, Hawaii County Code 1983 (2005
Edition, as amended), relating to the parks and recreational facility schedule, listing of parks in
Puna, is amended by amending the name of the "Isaac Hale Memorial Park" to read as follows:
]Isaac Keno`okalani Hale Beach Park".
SECTION 3. New material is underscored. In printing this ordinance, the underscoring
need not be included.
SECTION 4. If any provision of this ordinance, or the application thereof to any person
or circumstance, is held invalid, such invalidity shall not affect other provisions or applications
of the ordinance which can be given effect without the invalid provision or application, and to
this end, the provisions of this ordinance are declared to be severable.
SECTION 5. This ordinance shall take effect upon its approval.
