Subject: Incinerator
Has an EIS been done or even requested? How can you consider spending millions on something that will
pollute our air even though the claim is made that only trace amounts will be released into our air. Even trace
amounts of these elements are too much particularly when added to our vog. Tribune Herald newspaper on 3/18
had a headline on the back page stating "Halema'uma'u emissions continues to be dangerous" - how can it be
prudent to add more pollutants for us to breath! Another article in the Tribune Herald on 3/15 stated by Frank
Ferraro, vice-president of Wheelabrator, that the pollutants that are emitted are "all scary things, but they're all low
numbers". Low numbers are not reassuring when it comes to "scary emissions". Also in the same article, Mr.
Ferraro was asked about excessive emissions at its Pennsylvania plant where a fine was incurred. He stated that
the regulations are stricter there than elsewhere - where does that leave Hilo? Please reconsider any plans to
proceed with this unwise incinerator. From Judith Torricer, a concerned citizen
