RESOLUTION NO. 599 08
A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT
AND FROM THE DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT(S) AND CREDITING SAME TO
A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT(S)
WHEREAS, there are an estimated 50,000 visitors to Kapoho Tidepools in the
Wai`opae Marine Life Conservation District annually; and
WHEREAS, community members have hired a "Visitor Access Manager", to man the
tidepools on the weekends, greeting visitors, directing traffic in and out of parking spaces that
community members created, and passing out brochures to raise awareness about the need for
tidepool conservation and etiquette; and
WHEREAS, the funding of this "Visitor Access Manager" was paid for in 2007 by
the community and by a matching grant from the Hawaii Tourism Authority (HTA); and
WHEREAS, community members are not able to receive matching funds from HTA
in 2008 due to a missed deadline for applications; and
WHEREAS, $4,200 is needed to help community members pay for the "Visitor
Access Manager"; and
WHEREAS, Malama O Puna, a 501 (c) 3non-profit organization is willing to
administer the funds for the payment of a Kapoho Tidepools "Visitor Access Manager"; and
WHEREAS, Contingency relief funds from Council District 5 will be appropriated to
the Department of Research and Development for Malama O Puna to fund a Kapoho
Tidepools "Visitor Access Manager"; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that
the following amount is hereby transferred/appropriated as set forth below:

BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk shall forward a copy of this
resolution to the Director of Research and Development and the Director of Finance and that
the Director of Finance is hereby authorized to make the necessary transfers in accordance
with the terms of this resolution.
