Subject: PLEASE VOTE YES on Bill 257 (on April 8)
Aloha County Council,
As I am unable to be present to testify in person, I am writing you today about an urgent matter on the Council's
agenda for tomorrow (Tuesday).
Please LET VOTERS DECIDE IN NOVEMBER about Article XI-Initiative and Referendum (Bill 257, Draft 2).
Please vote YES to PUT THIS MEASURE ON THE BALLOT and let citizens decide.
I SUPPORT this charter amendment because I believe that its changes are critical to making our government
more effective, open, and transparent. The specific benefits I see in this matter include:
New, fairer, and clearer guidelines for verifying signatures.
Decreasing the total number of qualified signatures to 10% of the voters who voted in the last Mayoral election.
Eliminating the petition circulators need to get the petitions notarized, especially since their signatures can be
verified by the County.
Defines when the measure becomes law.
Clarifies the chronological order of the new amendment.
Specifies that a non-vote has no effect on the issue.
PLEASE PASS BILL 257 AND PUT IT ON THE BALLOT TO LET CITIZENS DECIDE in November of 2008!
Mahalo,
Michael Katz
