Subject: Military Training Route (MTR)
Dear Councilman Yagong:
By this letter I object to the establishment of a MTR on the Island of Hawaii as proposed by the US Air Force for
use by C-17 aircraft.
As President of the Mauna Kea Soaring Club which operates five sailplanes and one tow aircraft out of the
Waimea-Kohala Airport, I deem the operations of a low level training route to be an extremely hazardous use of
the airspace. The risk of collision is extremely high when we are flying our aircraft over the Waimea Plain within
the designated route. This, coupled with the normal usage on a day to day basis of the airport in such
close proximity to the proposed route is highly dangerous and unwarranted.
I am also a resident of the town of Waimea and in such capacity object to the establishment of a MTR within
our community.
Yours sincerely,
Wooodson K. Woods
