Subject: Testimony on the USAF Proposed C-17 Flight Plan over Hawai'i Island
Dear Honorable Council Members,
My husband and I have been residents of Hawai'i Island for almost 8 years, most of them in Kukuihaele and most recently, in
Waimea We are appalled at the thought of these enormous, noisy planes flying over our former and current homes,
disturbing the quiet of nrral Hawaii residents and possibly creating havoc with the environment. We understand that on the
current projected path these C-17 planes would fly as low as 300 feet above populated areas and as well as over the
Mamalohoa Highway between Waimea and Kailua-Kona. This could scare the heck out of drivers who happen to be on that
road when these fly-overs occur. These planes would be coming here from Oahu on training missions, but we can only see
detriment and no benefit to our island home. These training missions, instead, should take place at various locales on the
mainland where there are flight corridors in place that have minimal impact on people, animals, and the environment.
Please express your disapproval of this USAF plan and emphasize to our congressional delegation the importance of moving
this project to a more appropriate location on the mainland.
