Subject: Testimony re C-17
Dear Members of the Hawaii County Council:
As someone who has worked for many years to position Hawaii Island as "the Healing Island* and as a center of
environmental research and education, the use of our Island as a low-flying test site for huge Air Force jets
negates all the efforts we have made to diversity Hawaii's economy. These flights will disturb our native'lo and
other animal life being studied and preserved by our students and scholars, contribute to noise pollution which is
not in the interest of the visitor industry, reduce property values in a threatened housing market, among other
negative effects of the C-17 flights. Do we want to sacrifice everything that makes Hawaii Island attractive to
residents and to the world, just to cater to military expansion? Please don't let this happen to our Island.
