Subject: Please Approve Bill 257 - the League of Women Voters Version
Aloha Councilmembers,
So many residents islandwide worked to make this 2% initiative happen, residents with enough
forethought and vision to know that that future comes faster than ever before.
We must plan ahead! The biggest problems we have faced as a county have been past councils short
sightedness for the future of our island; please do not continue this "asleep at the wheel" path of those
that came before you.
Councilmembers Ikeada, Higa, Naeole, and Yoshimoto, Please reconsider your vote on this issue.
The future health and economy of our island demands that you look to the future ...and that future is
now.
Please Approve Bill 257 - the League of Women Voters Version.
...and RE-INSERT THE CLAUSES:
1. THAT THE MAYOR CANNOT VETO AN INITIATIVE or a REFERENDUM AND
THE COUNCIL CANNOT OVERTURN A MEASURE APPROVED BY VOTERS
EXCEPT BY TWO-THIRDS VOTE AND
2. THAT A MEASURE CAN QUALIFY FOR THE BALLOT WITH 10% OF THE
AMOUNT OF SIGNATURES IN THE LAST MAYORAL ELECTION.
