Arakaki, Chair Members, Hawaii County Council 25 Aupuni Street Hilo, Hawaii 96720 Dear Chairman Arakaki and Council Members: RE: Status Report on Contract Negotiations B.U. 13, professional and scientific employees, recently ratified the tentative agreement reached with the public employer for the '97-'99 contract period. The cost items for the tentative agreement will soon be submitted to the Council for approval. This leaves, for Hawaii County, with only B.U. 01, blue collar employees, without any agreement, not only for the period '97-'99, but '95-'97 as well. While you may have heard about contract ratification meetings taking place for B.U. 01, 1 can only say at this time that there has been no tentative agreement reached with B.U. 01. You may have heard also of the talk at the legislature about not funding cost items that have been submitted to them for approval. Pending legislative approval are the cost items for B.U.s 02, 03, and 04, and cost items for B.U. 13, which will soon be submitted to them. If the legislature fails to approve the cost items, the HGEA and the public employer will need to get back to the bargaining table for more talks. (Note: the Council had already approved the cost items for B.U.s 02, 03, and 04.) The State of Hawaii Organization of Police Officers (SHOPO) has submitted a request to begin bargaining for B.U. 12, police officers, for a contract covering !ills Aw PoS lat. ?o>I F ~ Pat, lt.~e .1 2 5 1996 The Honorable Jame:, . .
