RE: Proposed Rezoning for Keaau TMK 3-1-6-35
Dear Mr. Arakaki and Members of the Big Island County Council,
We are a local company that owns and operates Ben Franklin Crafts Stores and ACE
Hardware Stores in the State of Hawaii. We have a total of 8 stores on the Big Island - 5
ACE Hardware Stores, 2 combination ACE-Crafts Stores and 1 Ben Franklin Crafts
Store.
We are opposed to the rezoning of the Keaau parcel 3-1-6-3:5 from Light Industrial to
Retail. A bypass road is meant to bypass traffic and let cars flow through more smoothly.
Allowing retail development by the bypass will slow traffic down and it will not fulfil its
purpose.
As you may know, business in Hawaii has been tough. When this bypass goes through,
we will suffer some loss of business due to the decline of traffic by our Keaau ACE
Hardware Store. But we have not opposed the bypass because it is good for the
community. We do oppose this rezoning because we do not think that it is good for the
community or for the local retail businesses in Keaau.
We humbly ask that you turn down this request for rezoning. Thank you for your time
