The Police Department will be receiving additional funds from the State of Hawaii Department
of Transportation, Public Affairs Off ice -Safe Community Program to conduct more DUI
roadblocks and to purchase eight intoxilyzers. The purpose of this grant is to increase public
awareness of the impaired driver and to reduce motor vehicle collisions. injuries. and/or fatalities
attributed to alcohol and/or drug use of an impaired driver.
Pursuant to Section 46-7. Ilawai'i Revised Statutes. and Section 13-13(b). Hawaii County
Charter, the bill authorizes the Mayor to apply for, receive and expend the funds for this program
identified in the Operating Budget.
Your Committee on Finance is in accord with the purpose and intent of Bill No. 22 and
recommends it pass first reading.
