No. 77 PLACE: Council Chambers "DIME: 10:30 a.m. Council Chair and Memhers Hawaii County Council }lilo, Hawaii 96720 Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Communication No. 77, reports as ti~llow~s: Communication No. 77, transmitted by Mayor I Iarry Kim, dated December 23, 2002, nominates Vlr. Cliitord N. Kaminaka and Ms. Kaliko Chun to serve on the County of Hawaii Merit Appeals Board. Council District 3 - A resident of 1 [awai'i for 56 years, Mr. Clifford N. Kaminaka is a Rey°enue Officer with the United States Treasury Department. Mr. Kaminaka has served as a member of the Alokele Subdivision in various positions, a former Rotarian. a member of the Waiakea High School PTA, and a member of the Statewide Karaoke Club. Of no political party affiliation, he will serve a term to end December 31.2007. Council District 7 - A lifetime resident of Hawaii, Ms. Kaliko Chun presently serves in various capacities with the family business, Burgen, Inc. She is a member of the Advisory Council Ibr die Queen Lili'uokalani Children's Center, the Coalition of Hawaiian Organizations. She is the past director of Hui Na'au'ao (a coalition whose mission is to educate people on sovereignty) and a delegate representing Kona on Ahabni Hawaii/Native Hawaiian Com~ention. Of no political party affiliation, she will serve a term to end December 31.2007. In a letter dated January 10. 2003 from 1?xecutive Assistant Wendell Hatada (Communication No. 77.1), he clarified that the appointments are to the Civil Service Commission which also serves as the County"s Merit Appeals Board. Ms. Chun advised Your Committee that she is Senator Lorraine Inouye's Assistant, though it will not be a problem for hrr to attend an} Commission meeting. When asked, your Committee Chair indicated that servicing the State Senator and sitting on a commission would not he a conflict of interest. FC RI~:POR~C NO. 35 Pursuant to Section 7-1?, I lawai'i County Charter, the civil service commission shall consist of five members who shall be appointed by the mayor and confirmed by the council in the manner prescribed in Section 13-4 of the Hawaii County Charter. Your Committee on finance recommends confirmation of the appointment of Mr. Clifford N.
