Your Committee nn Finance, to which was referred Communication No. 88, reports as follows:
Communication No. 88, transmitted by Mayor Harry Kim, dated December 23. 2002, nominates
Mr. 'l~sukasa Ishii, Mr. Richard P. Rego and Mr. Paul W. Mann to serve on the Hawaii County
Salary Commission.
Council District 1 - A litctime resident of Hawai'i_ Mr. Tsukasa Ishii is a retired Postmaster
from the U.S. Postal Service. He currently serves as a director for the Hamakua Community
Federal Credit Union, is a moderator for the Hilo Coast United Church of Christ, and is a
member of the Akaka Falls Lions Cluh. Of no political party affiliation, he will serve a term to
end December 31.2006.
Council District 6 - A litctime resident of Hawaii, Mr. Richard P. Rego isself=employed in the
construction industry. Ile currently serves on the Cost of Government Commission. He also
serves on the Volcano Community Board, the Cooper Center Council, the Volcano Volunteer
fire Department and serves as a director on the Board of the Hawaii Island Contractor's
Association. Of no political party at~liation, he will serve a term to end December 31.20(17.
Council District 7 -A 16-year resident of Hawaii. Mr. Paul W. Maori is currently aself-
employed restaurateur. He has served as president for both County and State Hawaii Restaurant
Associations. He is also on the Big Island BUG Council and the Advisory Council ~br the Kona
Community College of Culinary Arts. A member of the Democratic Party, he will serve a term
to end December 3 L 2007.
Some Members of Your Committee were concerned that if Mr. Rego is appointed to the County
of Hawaii Salary Commission and if the Cost of Government Commission becomes permanent.
he will be serving on two commissions.

Pursuant to Section 13-28, Hawaii County Charter, the salary commission shall consist of nine
members appointed by the mayor with the approval of the council.
Your Committee on finance recommends the confirmation of Mr. Tsukasa Ishii.
Mr. Richard P. Rego and Mr. Paul W. Mann to the Hawaii County Salary Commission to serve
terms ending December 31.2006 (Mr. Ishii) and December 31, 2007 (Mr. Rego and Mr. Mann).
