Your Committee on Public Works and Intergovernmental Relations, to which was rdcrred
Communication No_ 225 and attached Resolution No. 66-03 reports as follows:
Communication No. 225 is from Public Works Director Bruce C McClure, dated April 2 ~. 3003_
transmitting the above resolution for Council consideration. According to Communication
No. 225. the County seeks to adopt Wood Valley Road as a County road. "phis action is neccssar~
in order to secure federal funding to repair existing flood damage to the roadway'. I'1?MA will pav
75°/u (approximately $ LOOU,000) of the total cost to conduct road repairs only if the Counh passes
a resolution to maintain the road in perpetuity. Al present, a portion of the road is a government
road_ the Wood Valley Road is also the only road in and out of Wood Vallev and the only
connection to County-owned roads within Wood Vallee.
1'he purpose of Resolution No. 66-03 is to adopt Wood Valley Road as a County road. "fhc
resolution states that adoption of the road is necessary in order for the County to receive Icderal
funding to repair the existing flood damaged roadway. lixhibit 1 further delineating the roadway
is also attached to the resolution.
At today's meeting, members questioned the probability of receiving Icderal funds to improve the
roadway. In addition_ somr members expressed concerns over taking on liability and continuing
salcty issues. which would come with ownership of the roadwa}~.
