Your Committee on E'inance, to which was referred Resolution No. 50-U3, reports as Billows:
Resolution No. 50-03, transmitted by Director of Finance William Takaba, via Communication
No. 161, dated March 4, ?003, authorizes the payment of funds of a later fiscal year and more
than one fiscal year for amulti-year lease of Rcal Property for the Planning Department al
F lanama Place.
hhe I Iawai'i County Planning Department wishes to enter into amulti-year lease ibr additional
office space with K. Taniguchi, Ltd. for 1.053 square feet of office space located at f lanama
Place Oftice Building, 75-5796 Kuakini Highway, Kailua-Kona. 'I~he County currently has a
three-year lease expiring on June 30. 2005, for its West Elawai'i County offices at Hanama Place.
The Planning Department is in need of this additional office space to accommodate its current
staff servicing West Hawaii. The approximate cost per month for the County is $2.337, which
will be budgeted in future f fiscal years to cover the anticipated cost.
Pursuant to Section 10-I 1, I lawai'i County Charter, any contract lease or other obligation
requiring payment of funds ti-om the appropriations ofa later fiscal year must he approved by
resolution.
William Takaba, Director of Finance, advised Your Committee that ifthe West Hawaii Civic
Center is built the Counts may cancel lease agreement vv~ithin sip months of its agreement.
Your Committee on Finance is in accord with the purpose and intent of Resolution No. SU-03
and recommends its adoption.
