Hawaii 96720 Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Bill No. 68, reports as follows: Bill No. 68, transmittedjointl~-with Resolution No.52-03 by Directorofl~inance William'I~akaba. via Communication No. 164, dated March 5, 2003, amends Ordinance No. (12-76, as amended. the Operating Budget, ending June 30. 2003. l~he amendment is as follows: From: 330i?4 Federal Grants-COPS in Schools General $750.000 l~o: 010-201-5216.09 COPS in Schools General $750,000 These funds from the United States of America, through the U.S. Department ofJustice. Office of Comnwnity Oriented Policing Services (COPS) will he used strictly for entry level salaries and fi~inge benefits for six new police officers for three years not to exceed $125.000 per officer. l~hese new positions are part of the School Resource (1f[icer Program, which places law enR>rcemcnt officers in designated schools within the County of Hawaii who will be trained to perform three roles in the schools: law en&~rcement, law-related counseling, and law-related educational presentation. Pursuant to Section 46-7, Hawaii Revised Statutes. and Section 13-13(b), Hawaii County Charter, the Mayor is hereby authorized to apply for. receive and expend the funds for the COPS in Schools program. For informational purposes. Mr. Tyler voted "kanalua" then "no."
