Resolution No. 69-03, transmitted b~ Director of Finance William 'I~akaba, via Conummicalion
No. 231, dated npril 23. 2003, creates six 16) Police Officer 11 Cl~emporary) positions lilt the
Hawaii County Police Department.
I~hese positions are part ofthe School Resource Officer Program, which places law enlin~ccnunt
officers in designated schools within the County of Hawaii, and will he assigned to the I lilo.
W5iakea. Kea'au, Honoka'a. Konawaena and Kealakehe school complexes. This program will
work in amjunMion with the Community Policing Program to fiicus on creating and maintaining
a sate school and communih env ironmcnt.
Funds will he made available through the U.S. DeparUnent of.lustice. Office of Conununih
Oriented Policing Services (COPS). and was recently appropriated by the Council.
For informational purposes. Mr. 'I}~Ier voted kanalua twice.
Your Committee on Finance is in accord with the purpose and intent of Resolution No. 69-03
and recommends its adoption.
