Dircchir. Dcpartnunt of Public Worl.s. transmitting the above bill fbr Council consideration. In this letter, Mr. McClure reports that the amendment proposed in Bill No. 133 would relocate the mid-Mock crosswalk to a more appropriate location near Ala Ke'eke'e Place. 1 le also reports that the measure is supported by 511'!5, of Central Kona Union Church's congregation. I~he purpose of Bill No. 13 3 is to amend Chapter 24, relating to Vehicles and 'I~ratiic, /article 10, Division ~. Section 24-276. Schedule 24 (Crosswalks). Subsection (I) Kona, hem (16), of the Ilawai'i County Code 1983 (1995 edition), by deleting the mid-block crosswalk fronting the Central Kona Union Church. ~~t today~s meeting, Casey ti. Yanagihara. According to Mr. Yanagihara_ this measure was introduced to utilise a new intersection at Ala Ke'eke'c Place and Mamalahoa I lighway. Division inspectors concluded that relocating the crosswalk to the proposed site would provide pedestrians with a saber crossing location. Mr. Yanagihara csplained ihat it is helieved that motorists. in gcneial, anticipate crosswalks and pedestrians at intersections rather than at mid-block locations. During discussion. Conunittcc members queried the relocating effint and requested that Traffic Division Inspection Report; ol~ the siic he forwarded to the Council for further review.
