Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Communication No. 408, reports as follows:
Communication No. 408, transmitted by Director of Finance William 7 akaba, dated
November 3, 2003, authorizes the acceptance of donations from the Friends of the 700.
The h'riends of the Zoo has graciously donated a washer and dryer to the Department of Parks &
Recreation's Pana'ewa Rainforest 700. "fhe washer and dryer will be placed at the 7.0o Service
Building to be used for the towels and bedding material used when injured or sick animals are
housed in the service area. The value of the donation is estimated at $600.00.
Pursuant to Article XIII, Section 13-12, I Iawai'i County Charter. the Council, on behalf of the
County, may accept gifts or donations of personal property.
Also, pursuant to Chapter 2, Article 30. Section 2-162(c). of the Hawaii County Code, any
donation or gift which does not tall within the capitalization procedures of the department of
finance shall be submitted to the council by letter for its approval.
A letter of appreciation will he sent to the Friends of the Zoo, .lean Curtis, President, P.O.
Box 738. Kea`au, Hawaii 96749, acknowledging these generous donations.
Your Committee on Finance recommends the acceptance of the washer and dryer to the
Department of Parks & Recreation's Pana'ewa Rainforest 70o from the Friends of the 7,00.
